Hi Larry,
No, I don’t think there’s going to be any change in policy. I just think Cindy
had a misunderstanding, but I’m pretty sure Judy has cleared it up.

Hey folks. I hope we’re not getting around to changing the hold-for policy.
Most of my scanning is hold-for going to proofers I’ve had a relationship with
for years.

Hi Cindy, you must have misspoke when you wrote this, because it's never OK to
take a book with a hold on it for someone else without PRIOR permission already
agreed on that you can do this for a specific book in special cases. It's never
been OK to poach a book in all the years that I've been volunteering for
Bookshare (over a decade.)
It's my understanding that it's been that way since the beginning of Bookshare.
Poaching books is and always has been unacceptable.
The automated Bookshare computer systems that handle the checkout list will not
prevent anyone who is an approved volunteer from downloading a book from the
checkout queue that has a hold for someone else, but that doesn't mean it's
ever OK to do it.
FWIW.

The only way to release a book is to write to staff and ask for the holdto be
removed. Mostly, they won’t remove a hold unless you’re the onewhoput the hold
on in the first place. Sometimes staff removes holds that have languished for
weeks and theproofer hasn’t picked it up. Of course you “can” download a book
with a hold—there is nothingphysically preventing you from doing that. The real
issue is “should”youdownload a book with a hold, and the anser is “NO”. There
is a reasonforthe holds and the hold needs to be honored. Deborah *From:*

Hi. I was looking at the check out cue. There are lots of books on hold
forpeople, and it goes back a long way. I am wondering if there is a
waytorelease the holds or to get an updated list. I ask because I was
abletodownload a book that was on hold for someone else. When I realized
this,Iput it back into the cue, and the date was somewhere in December
orJanuary. Just thought that I would bring this up. Best,Melissa R. Green
