Is that really a condition of the grant? If it is I have not heard that from any other source. If it is, then it is an injustice. I want to also say that if this is a list for discussion of the technical aspects of submitting and proofing books for inclusion in the collection we have definitely strayed off topic. It is less off topic than a lot of other discussions that have been held here like birthdays, favorite foods and so forth, but it is still off topic. A point should be made about how it happens though. There are certain things I feel very strongly about and censorship is one of them. There is a metaphor about pushing people's buttons and I suppose almost everyone has buttons that when pushed sets them off about something. In my case, when someone starts defending censorship my buttons are being pushed very heavily. You might even say they are being pounded with a sledge hammer.

I have remained as silent as I possibly can since my voice is just coming back after three weeks of pneumonia, but the whole argument is making me very, very angry. If laws need to be repealed, this is not the place to argue it. It is one thing to call attention to the fact that someone may want to work with you on the issue given a specific opportunity, but we really should not have this battle here.

As to the adult designation, since it is a stipulation of the grant, then Bookshare needs to decide if they really want to grant or not. It should not be in our hands as volunteers to decide whether they comply with the grant or not. Frankly, I am so there irritated about the whole thing that I'm half ready to report the lack of compliance to the Department of Education, even at the fear that they will then reject or rescind the grant for noncompliance.

I'm sorry you don't like the agreement that they reached with Bookshare, Roger, but if you don't like it, this is not the place to change it. If you do not like the rules by which Bookshare must follow to comply with the grant, then put your efforts elsewhere. These educational grants were big-time money for Bookshare and have allowed for the enormous expansion of the collection. With that opportunity and financial assistance came responsibility and restrictions. Again, this list is not the place to debate whether we like them or not, but with the people who signed for the terms of the grant.

Well, then those laws need to be repealed, don't they?
