E., as a still fairly new volunteer, I agree with your wishes for the manual. One of the most disconcerting things about Bookshare is that there are numerous places to go to find important or helpful information, and a new volunteer simply would not know/or be able to easily locate all of this material. All the inclusions in the manual which you mention would greatly streamline the learning process.

Cindy we have repeatedly been told to leave numbers just as they are in the print book. Do not move them. Do not add parentheses.

Gustavo spoke about this. Pratik spoke about this. Please save yourself by leaving the scan to copy the print book and refraining from moving or adding things. (smile)

I have no idea why that was not in the manual. But then I do not know what was going on when submitters were left with so little input from the manual. I was hoping spell checking and use of rank spelling might be stressed in the manual. I was hoping for inclusion of Jake's tips in appendices so newcomers can have everything in one place. But then I keep hoping for all kinds of things to make submitting and validating go more smoothly. (smile.)

I have done that at times, but then at some point some
readers said that it was too difficult to read and
could be just put the footnote number at the end of
the sentence without parentheses. Perhaps that's
something that should be added to the manual if it
isn't already there.

I just checked the copy I downloaded and it isn't, so
I'll write to Lisa. I don't see it in Tips on Jake's
site, either.
