I actually find myself making fewer spelling mistakes after switching
from sighted use to TTS.  The mistakes stick out way more.  Eyes have
a way of gliding over errors, duplicated words etc.  TTS, if you are
paying attention, forces you to hear everything that was typed.

It doesn't help that much with homographs, but then not much does.
