In my humble opinion, Codex is easier to use, and as you say, it's free.
Already buying the books, so I don't like the idea of having to buy
something to read them.

As a note of interest, Codex is based on Calibre. I was using calibre until
Codex came along. Codex is a lot easier to use.

What is Codex? I use Calibre to convert the Kindle books to EQUB files. I
had to download some Internet.files into Calibre in order for the conversion
process to work. You can find out how to do this online.
Downloading the files from the Internet is save.

The iPhone app works fine. I can't get the program to work on my
laptop though. My problem with the app is that I don't like the iPhone
reading voice much, so I prefer to use VoiceDream Reader where you can
select different voices. You can add books in epub, rtf, pdf and a few
other formats. I add through Dropbox, but I'm sure there are other ways.
That said, the app is accessible if you can get over the computerized
iPhone voice.
