Monica, I couldn't agree more. I think a lot of the problem developed early on due to the very minimal standards for validators and the fact that many books were sent for the collection whose scanners hadn't been aware that the books would ever be shared with others. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Monica Willyard" <rhyami@xxxxxxxxx>

Elizabeth, a lot of the BSO books are replacing books in the collection that are in good or fair condition or that lack page breaks. Some of the books on the site were flagged as excellent but actually have some missing pages or garbled pages. Some of us are doing new scans of these books after trying to read them from the collection and finding the current versions to be difficult to read. Over time, I have become to feel as Lissi and Jill do... that books in fair condition are sometimes just too messed up to read. Maybe it comes from validating so often that every page of garbled text bugs me. I didn't feel that way when I first came here. All I know is that when I find books like these, I try to do a new scan that is more comfortable to read. I figure that if it bothers me, it probably bothers other Bookshare members. I know this is really ambitious, but I'd like to see all of the fair rated books rescanned, especially the ones done in the first two years of Bookshare's history. I'm including my own first efforts at scanning in this statement and am working to replace my first several submissions. I mean no disrespect to anyone. I just want our members to have the best access and quality possible.
