Dear Carrie, Yes, Saving Grace is an Orca book and I was going to forward the listing at the back with the intention of encouraging Bookshare to take on this series. These books are wonderful teaching tools and often bridges to more challenging reading. I put in a few hours scanning and pre proofing Saving Grace, so it would be nice if my submission could make its way into the collection. Now I know this project is underway, I'll be glad to leave the rest of the Orca books to your sub contractor. Always with love, Lissi ----- Original Message ----- From: Carrie Karnos To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, May 05, 2009 7:38 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: seeking proofreader Hi Lissi, I received a request for Orca Soundings books to be put into the collection, so we have purchased about 130 Orca Soundings, Orca Current, and Orca Sports books. Saving Grace by Darlene Ryan is one of them. Is this the book you're referring to? I'll see if I can cancel it from the people who chop and scan our books. All of the Orca books are high interest, low vocabulary, so before anyone starts scanning a book of that type, please check to see if it's an Orca book. We're trying to put all of the Orca books into the collection. The reading level is 2.4 but the content is aimed at teenage and adult readers. These books are used in programs for reading disabled students or students learning English as a second language. It's only 99 short pages long. I would really appreciate it if someone would take it who is willing to check carefully for mistakes I've missed so the book will be as clear to readers as the publishers intended it to be. The book contains teen slang and some strong language but should not be adult rated. this book is 108 pages long. I didn't notice the page count field when I was uploading. There are two additional pages of preliminary material noted with lower case Roman Numerals. Please contact me if you have questions. I'm keeping the print copy of the book until it's in the collection. Here are the long and short synopsis I've written which provide more information than the automated fill ins. Brief synopsis Evie will care for her baby--even if it means kidnapping her. The problem is the baby's father wants no part of the infant and Evie didn't learn enough about babies in babysitting class. Is loving little Grace enough? High interest low vocabulary for teens and adults, RL 2.4 Long synopsis She doesn't even know that formula should be heated up or that infants can't hold bottles by themselves. Though her mother died years ago, Evie remembers her mother's love and wants to pass that love to her own child who has been adopted because Evie is barely sixteen. After she kidnaps baby Grace who she renames Brianna, she's sure her deep love for her daughter, will provide all they need to start life in a new city far from home. She didn't count on the baby's father not wanting his child, or not knowing how to cope with poopy diapers. As she struggles to keep her baby she learns that mothers will do the hardest things imaginable for their children.
