It wasn't very good in the past, but maybe it works better now. If you
wouldn't mind off the shelf software I have heard that Abby Fine Reader is
usable with a screen reader and it gets great scans. That is what is used
by bookshare inhouse volunteers and other people on this list, so you can
get help from them if necessary.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] scanning software

I've been considering getting a scanner and some accessible software to go
with it. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to get something like Open
Book or K1000. I was just wondering if anyone has ever used Text Cloner. I
found it on the www.readingmadeeasy.com website. It's scanning sofware that
will work with a screen reader. Has anyone tried it? Does anyone know if
it's worth it to buy? It's much less expensive than the others so I was
looking into it. If anyone has any information on this, I'd really
appreciate it.

Lisa
