Actually the Epson Perfection 1240U USB 1.0 is listed as a fast scanner by
Kurzweil. A typical page in a book requires about 15 seconds per scan with
reset. In actuality I find that I am lucky to get 100 pages per hour given OCR
and all. I was thinking about acquiring a new scanner that could cut down the
scanning time. I wondered if USB 2 scanners would be any faster? In the
demonstration video of the new OptiBook scanner it took about six seconds per
scan and reset. This would cut my scanning time in half, but there still is
the OCR and spellcheck which would stay the same.

the 1250 was, or 1650, something with 50. How long does it take for you to scan
a page? You're talking scanning here, right? Not
recognition, which takes additional time, and which speed depends on your
machine's available memory, hard drive speed, processor etc. I believe the 1240
would not benefit from usb 2.0, because it came out before
usb 2.0, but I might be wrong. I'm using an older scsi scanner, an hp4p. and I
find that its speed is quite acceptable.
