Get an Epson. They are surdy, work well with k1000 and other scanning
programs and produce quality scans for the money. You may also want to
think of getting a re-furbished one thus allowing you to get more features
for the money, if money is a concern.
Features to consider is durability, speed, whether or not you want a
automatic page feeder for stacks of single sheets and what size of a
scanning bed you want. Good luck and congratulations. Nice thoughtful gift.

Hi all.
I'm finally going to get a scanner! It's going to be a Christmas present from my parents, but they want me to tell them which one to get. I will be using FineReader along with it, and was wondering which scanner will be best to use. Also, my current computer is a Windows 98 machine, but sometime I will be getting a new one, so I'll need something that will run on both. Any suggestions?
