Hey Jake and list,
Though the ISBN numbers can certainly facilitate verification of book info, I
was under the impression that they weren't a required part of the submission.
Is it a great hindrance to leave those numbers out when submitting? I've teamed
up with a couple different folks who validate my submissions and I believe I've
only left the ISBN out a couple times, but it doesn't seem to have caused any
delays.
In a somewhat related topic, it appears as if many books already have their 13
digit number. When I browse Amazon, I find both 10 and 13 digit ISBN's under
the "product details" section for many books which were released before 2007.

13 digit numbers went active January 1, 2007, so we're the ones behind the
time. I'm glad you mentioned it to Gustavo again that we aren't supporting
this--I know I mentioned it last spring but it evidently fell through the
cracks.

I have finished validating Santa Cruise, and I'd like to upload it, but I
can't. The only ISBN number in the book is 13 digits long, and Bookshare only
accepts 10 digit ISBN numbers. Evidently sometime this year (July?), all new
books will be required to have 13 digit ISBN numbers, so I guess the publishers
of Santa Cruise were a bit premature. I have told Gustavo about this problem,
and he has alerted Engineering about it, so hopefully we will have a fix soon,
and I'll be able to upload the book. Will let everyone know when this occurs.
In the meantime, I've uploaded about 10 of the December New York Times
bestsellers, so they should be hitting the new book list by the end of the week
or so.
