Subject: [bksvol-discuss] rtf format and unwanted pagebreaks

The more you switch from application to application, so I have been told by Kurzweil staff, the more likely it is that extraneous pagebreaks will appear in an rtf file.

The explanation I have received runs as follows.

RTF is a file format which is really a txt file with some added attributes such as page breaks and other things (rtf stands for rich text format). Each application (think Word, Word Perfect, or kurzweil) interprets a file when opening a rtf file using its own ""converter". The "converter" used by Word Perfect may be different from that used by Word or Kurzweil in just enough ways to produce extraneous page breaks.

Kurzweil staff suggests that a file in kes by edited in kes for as long as possible, converting to rtf only when all editing is complete.

In short, the more you load a file into one application and then into another the more trouble you may run into. This is not tru in all cases. But in general the more programs you get into the act, the more the possibility exists for difficulties.

Amy, this may be useful for you to know in your use of Word Perfect in combination with Kurzweil 1000. Hope this helps somebody.

E.
