I have eventually picked up books which have this fate (see below.) In
some cases, nothing much was going on with them. Folks, if you take a book
to validate and after a week or two you note big or small issues you do not
have experteese or time to solve, please release the book but put a note on
this list describing what is going on. We will thus have a way of
communicating about these repeatedly picked up books without having to
resort to those cryptic notes on the step 1 page.
Katlin, what is going on with Transit of Venus? When I checked it out it had a lot and I mean a lot of line breaks. What are you doing with it in the next week or so?

Expanding on Elizabeth's comments:
In looking at the tracking info on Step 1 books, I observe the same thing. Moreover, it often appears to be the same individuals who repeatedly go through these steps eventually abandoning the book in question. I am curious as to why someone would repeatedly go through steps to continue control over a book and then abandon them? Is it frustration as to the quality of the book and a realization that the situation is hopeless and a red flag to the rest of us? If so, would it not make more sense to reject the book outright?
I honestly am trying to understand this as perhaps I (and Elizabeth) may be missing something.
