So, again I'm a newbie and I have so many questions. I hope you don't mind that I just reply and ask when they strike me.
Is there separate jobs for each type of thing on bookshare? As in are there certain people who do just scanning and just validating?
Also, are there people who only do certain steps of the validation process? I've read the validation instructions and they're pretty vague. What I mean is that I see under each book that several people have done different things to the books. So are certain people assigned to do certain things?

Hi everyone,When I hear about the complaint that scanners are paid more than validators, I say whoo cares. No one would take a job at either the rate for validators or scanners: we do it beccause we are dedicated to Bookshare. The system seems to be working, since there is always a big selection of books that need to be validated.Mike----- Original Message ----- From: "siss52" <siss52@xxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 1:08 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: relying in kes' ranked spellingHi Cindy, Since you are very thooughtfully speaking in general, it does seem thatsubmitters could take random samples of their scans--i.e., read a couple ofpages here and there to see if this problem exists. After all, they makemore than we do. <smile> And if submitters find that this problem existswith a lot of their scans, maybe they coould get the problem cleared up before submitting anything else. Just my thoughts. I suspect that if it was checked with kes ranked spelling it would have gotten a very high ranking. But reading it shows that there are many, many errors that wouldn't be identified by the kes ranked spelling or by Word's spell check--things like semicolons where there should be commas and words like lie for like, tune for time, polling for pulling, our for out, end for and, and many more--and I'm only on page 18. Just commenting. I know it's too much to expect everyone who scans to read their books before submission, and I suspect that validators who download a book marked excellent will assume that it is and possibly not read it, either--though I know many of you do. But I think that is why some books that appear excellent aren't really. Running kes ranked spelling or Word's spell-check certainly would get rid of a lot of junk and mis-spelled words, but it's not perfect.
