After hitting home twice, swipe to an ap you don't want and tap twice and hold the second tap. Voiceover will say "editing apps tap twice to delete". Do that. For the next app you don't want all you have to do is double tap it and it will go away. Summarized, you hit the home button twice to trigger recent apps, then press and hold one until they are jiggling (not sure how voice over alerts you for that), then hit the minus in the upper right corner of unneeded apps in memory.
