HI Cindy,
I had a book here recently that stated all the pictures were retained. IT
turned out to mess up the pagination when validating. I was able to get it
corrected but since the pictures do not come through it just makes more work
for the validation process.

It's my understanding that Bookshare's tools are only capable of handling
any graphics by stripping them, and that you'll need to delete them and
replace them with a caption/description before upload to Bookshare. The
statement I've read which I'm basing this on is as follows:
At this point, we are not able to support delivery of graphics with our
books. Only text is delivered, so any graphics/pictures you may have
embedded in your scanned material will not be included in the formats
available for download from Bookshare.org.
Based on this statement, I'm guessing that the tools are able to strip the
graphics and still produce a book in DAISY and BRF, but if that is the case,
then it would be like they were never there in the first place, so I'd play
it safe by stripping them manually and replacing them with a
caption/description.

I have new computer --still a Mac but an OSX--and am
still using my Epson 1660 ro scan, but I have newer
ABBY, I guess. It doesn't do some things the other one
did, i.e., I can't seem to scan and recognize more
than one page at a time, but it is retaining pictures
that are on the page. I'm assuming that is have to
delete them because they won't show up when I submit
the book? Or am I wrong? (Wouldn't it be wonderful it
the pictures in a book would be retained along with
the text!!) It may be because the pictures are not iin
color but are line drawings.
Shall I leave them in or delete them?
