Hi Cindy, The spaces are retained when a table is converted to text. However, not all tables should have spaces as separators. In a table of contents, the demarcation between collumns of information is pretty well intuited from the text. That won't always be the case. A table containing statistics, or numbers, would be better represented with commas or something else between them to make sure that the reader knows where one bit of information ends and the next begins. The proofreader sometimes needs to decide which method is best for separation, using common sense. As to spaces being deleted, bookshare's tools only delete more than one space anywhere. So, as long as tabs are replaced with spaces, and not nothing, you're fine. I've always rewritten tables using commas and semi-colons to separate parts that were in different columns in a table. Much simpler for everyone to read. What software are you using? Do you need instructions for how to do this, if using Microsoft Word? The first page of it is formatted as a table, the second page as just text. I'm wondering what to do with this. I've never submitted a book with a table, so I guess my first question is what is the bookshare process going to do to this table? I'm especially thinking about the braille copy here. Guess my basic question is, should I leave the part of the table of contents that is in a table as a table, or should I do something else with it? Thanks, Donna
