Hi Ann, when you are proofing, you have to do it with some program or other, such as Microsoft Word, or some other word processor. Even if you use K1000 or OpenBook, they both have word processors built into them. An editing program is just another name for whatever word processing software you are using to proofread the book.

I use JAWS as my screen reader, and I don't use an editing program. What you said is what it does while I'm proofing. This time, I will eave it alone. I
screwed it up with the last book I proof read, as far as pages are
concerned. I wilol eave it alone this time. I just thought to ask because
sometimes when I download a book from the site, I will get a book with two
different page numbers. Thanks for the information.

What software are you using to do the proofing? If you are using an
editing program such as MS Word and a screen reader, in some cases there
will be a page number in the text of the page and another page number
that the software keeps track of. For example, if your book has 4 pages
without numbers at the beginning of the book, then starts with page 1 in
the text, by the time you get to the page with 212 in the text, your
software might call it page 216. Each time you come to a new page your
screen reader might say the number the software gives the page, then the
page number in the text. In general, you can't change the page number
assigned by the software, and you want to leave the page number in the
text. In other words, you probably shouldn't change anything. But, you
are supposed to make sure the book has all its pages, and if possible
that all the numbers in the text are in the correct order.

Hello all,

I have a quick question about proofing a book. While I was proofing
Wren To The Rescue, (which was very cute by the way) as I'm going
through the pages, there are two sets of page numbers. For example, it
will say 212, and then it will say page so, and so. Do I leave that
alone or do I delete the first set of pages? For example, it will say
212 and then it will say page 216. I hope I don't sound confusing. Lol
I can't think to explain it any other way.

Thanks,

Ann

P.S whoever is looking over Wren To The Rescue, I didn't realize that
Wren's name was spelled with a W. I think I only took out the W once,
and I also accidently removed it in the title page just before I
submitted it. Sorry about that.
