My thoughts exactly. And the book had page breaks, and no electronic
copyright notice.

Some obvious indicators are.

No page breaks
a notice to the fact that it is an electronic book.

Smile, beyond that.

Faith value.

Hi, Lora. We have a couple of partially-sighted submitters who
create flawless scans. There are also a couple who have sighted
spouses who do some of the scanning. They remove things like extra
spaces, headers, and even keep the fonts consistent. You may have
validated books by such submitters.
