Hi Roger and everyone, You can check our website for a list of current publishers on the following page: https://www.bookshare.org/_/community/publishers. I started working with volunteers to compile a list of all of the imprints, but unfortunately did not get a completed list as the volunteers were not able to finish. I do not have the bandwidth to do this volume of research myself, but if anyone is interested in continuing to work on this, I'm happy to get them the list we've come up with so far. If you're interested, please contact me off list and we'll get cracking on this. But since you did this is an opportunity to remind Madeleine of something she told us was coming a long time ago. First, you can scan and submit anything that you want that is not already in the collection. A lot of volunteers decided, though, that is not safe because their scans may very well be replaced by a publisher quality book. You can take solace in the fact that your work will be available to Bookshare subscribers until it is replaced, but if you are not comfortable with that eventual replacement it would be a good idea to scan only books that are published by publishers which have not signed the agreement with Bookshare that allows them to supply books. They do not necessarily supply every book that they have ever published, but it is not very possible to predict which one they will submit. Jamie from Michigan once started a list of so-called safe publishers and at the time I thought it was a good idea and encouraged people to submit as many publishers as they can to be included on that list. Later I realized that this was an exercise in futility. There are an incredible number of publishers that have come and gone, that is, went out of business after publishing only a few books. There are uncountable small publishers still in existence that have published only a few books. There are an incredible number of authors who self published and made up an imprint to publish only one book. In other words, there is no way that we will ever compile a list of safe publishers that would be comprehensive. The better idea is to have a list of publishers that have signed the Bookshare agreement and to have a list of all of their imprints because an imprint can be easily confused for the publisher itself. Then if the publisher or imprint is not on the list we can assume that it is a safe publisher. I think there is already a list of cooperating publishers on the site somewhere, but we really need that list of their imprints. A long time ago Madeleine said that she was working on compiling just such a list, but I have not heard anything about it for a long time. So, Madeleine, this is a little reminder. Can you give us a progress report? On 12/28/2013 2:41 AM, Julia wrote: > Hi all. > I thought I'd share with you some more publishers to scan.
