It all depends on which screen reader, the speech synthesizer is being
used, and which software package or device one happens to be using to read
the book.
Blank lines between paragraphs are useful, incidentally, in many
situations as, when I want to check something out manually, I
can easily find paragraphs because of the blank lines.
And many speech oriented applications are geared to jump between
paragraphs by hunting for blank lines.
