Dear E,

The Reading Club for the Blind is a yahoo e mail group of blind readers who discuss books of any kind. A major reason it was originally formed is that at that time it was nearly impossible for blind people to get books the local clubs were reading. ON that list, people often give the source of the books they are talking about.

It changes as time goes by, as most lists do, but I really enjoyed the group. Many people write reviews of books they've just read. Certain topics surface and resurface, like What are you reading right now, where do you read, what was your first talking or braille book, favorite childhood books, Bookshare, Audible dot com, etc. Sometimes they get going on favorite authors or series like The Little House books, Harry Potter, LOTR, The Alphabet Series, etc. . After you've been a member for a while you begin to get a feel for the lister's taste so you can scroll through the messages and look for reader's posts who have a lot in common with you. Opinions are freely expressed. One reader's treasure is another's trash. Almost all genres are covered SF, mystery/suspense, memoir, classics, Christian fiction, best sellers, etc. When I was a member it was a very friendly group, sometimes going off topic. Several people formed friendships there which they've sustained off list. When I unsubscribed it was quite high traffic. I am so immersed in validating, I didn't have the time it deserved. It's a great place to send the long synopses of the books you've validated which have been approved. The list enjoys the reviews and it attracts new members to Bookshare.

Always with love,
