It saves files as XMT and TXT, both. You could easily read the TXT on the PC. If you changed it to RTF, I don't know if it would retain page breaks. I think using the KNFB Reader to scan a whole book would be a lot harder than using a scanner. For one thing, it has to finish processing one page before going on to scan another. This is a lot slower than K1000, which can start scanning again pretty quick. Also, one can't fix scanning options on the KNFB Reader to make quality better. You get what you get, and that can vary from page to page, depending on how you hold the Reader when you snap the picture. I know people do use it to read books, but I think there are much more efficient ways to do that, especially if you're going for quality, not just reading.
