Have to agree on both Stream and with her assessment on K1000. The Rank Spelling plus image viewing where possible make this invaluable.

I beg to differ about Kurzweil, but that is me, smile. I do love the VR Stream and it looks like a truly cool device. The Icon is a great little device I have the one from APH, called the Braille+ which is the same device but with a braille keyboard. Several of my students use them as back up notetakers. It is great! Shelley L. Rhodes M.A., VRT, CTVI and Guinevere, Golden lady Guide guidinggolden@xxxxxxxxx Guide Dogs For the Blind Inc. To those of you who have followed my Blind Confidential blog(http://www.blindconfidential.blogspot.com) since we started two and a halfyears ago, you will have read my numerous rants against "blind guy ghetto" products and my near total endorsement of adaptive technology on off-the-shelf hardware. Even while working for FS, I would recommend JAWSplus Fine Reader or OmniPage instead of OpenBook or K1000 as I feel stronglythat the economies of scale cause the mainstream products to provide much more bang for the buck. Then came Vic. This little device is hardly larger than a deck of Poker playing cards and weighs only a few ounces. It has a tremendously intuitive UI and plays virtually every file format that I find interestingwith very good fidelity. It is only $325, which places it around the middle of the line on Apple iPod hardware and doesn't require installing any hacked software (I think RockBox is really cool but Humanware technical support andother things that come with the Vic are more useful than trying to revive Apple hardware/firmware when an update comes out.I've heard the iCon, a GNU/Linux based notetaker designed for use by people with vision impairment, is also very cool but I've never touched one in reallife and can't say anything first hand about it. The Apple iPod is certainly slick and trendy but my sighted wife says that the Vic is pretty cool looking as well. How much did it cost and how were you able to use it? Thanks EstinIt is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid then to open it andremove all doubt.
