Here is the message I posted, that shows how, when in an Outlook Express
folder contents list view, to display the message fields in non-standard
order.

Before you read, I will tell you it's definitely easier to use shortcut
commands in this window, because if you don't, after each step you will have
to tab or shift tab back to the list. So anyways, here goes.
\1. open the view menu with alt V
2. arrow down and enter on column...
Now you'll be in a list of all the message fields, attachments, from,
subject, sent and received, and more.
Arrowing down the list from top to bottom will show you the list in which
the fields now show from left to right in your mail folder index, so if
there was a field, like in this case you want to see the subject earlier,
you:
1. arrow down to subject
2. tab over and push space on the move up button. The shortcut is alt U.
Rather than moving a few of fields up, sometimes it is just easier to move
one field down. In that case you:
1. arrow up to it
2. tab to and push space on the down button. The shortcut is alt D.
Another note, if there is a field in this list which you don't care about,
like in this case I do display the sent date, but I don't care about the
received date and size, you can have them not display. Not only does this
cut out a lot of extra verbiage, but it gives you more room to see the
fields you want, so things like subject lines, which are sometimes long,
don't get cut off.
If you don't want a particular field to show:
1. arrow down to the field
2. tab to and push space on the hide button . The shortcut is alt H.
If by accident you hid a field you do want to see:
1. arrow back to it
2. tab to and push space on the show button. The shortcut is alt S.
Once all the fields you want are displaying in the correct order, don't
forget to tab to and push space on the ok button.
That should be it..
