Reggie,
From what you've said, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I think
your BN is simply malfunctioning. I hope you can upgrade and that it will
fix the bad behavior. BNs seem to have the capacity for being extremely
tempermental, and there isn't much you can do about it besides plague PDI.
