Hello Larry and Robert,

I have also scanned paperbacks on my OpticBook 3600 and, while they're not
perfect, I also haven't noticed a consistent problem with missing characters
from the binding. I'm quite sure the light doesn't go right up to the book
edge, but I also doubt the distance is anything approaching an inch.

I scan paperbacks on my opticbook all the time and haven't noticed that
problem. My wife validates the books and she hasn't mentioned this problem
to me.

That opticbook is best suited for hardbacks, rather than paperbacks. This
is because the light doesn't go all the way to the edge of the scanner,
but stops about an inch in. This means that if you try scanning a regular
paperback by putting the binder flush with the edge, you'll get chopped
off words because the inner margins didn't get scanned. Try using a
hardback on an opticbook. YOu'll be amazed.

Hi Jackie and others:

I am reminded of a problem that I have in terms of the opticbook.

Whenever I use the reading edge with kurzweil, I never, and I do mean
never,
get a clean scan. It's so full of errors and it hits way below a normal
confidence level. I have used different books, have tried optimizing, but
to
no avail.

Do you have any suggestions? I thought I wasn't using the edge correctly
but after Jackie's explanation, I realize that I'm at least doing the
mechanics correctly.

Meka
