I agree completely, I got my 3800 from amazon for $250 or so and would think 
its replacement, the 3900, would be comparably priced. I would have never paid 
close to $400.

Not wanting to be a wet blanket, but I paid about $300 for mine 2 years ago, 
and see B&H has them for even less now at $269, free shipping ad no tax outside

I purchased a new Opticbook 3900 for $487 at Amazon.

I don’t know for sure what I had paid for my 3800, but it was probably like 6 
or so years ago.

I got it yesterday and I am well on my way to being a happy camper again. 

Amazon Prime is sure good to their promise on rapid delivery!

It did have 2 discs for software, one for Windows, one for Mac.

I am Windows. I would love to someday try a Mac.

 

My theory on what went wrong with my 3800 is that the locking mechanism somehow 
got messed up.

Because the light bar when it would go back to the beginning would get stuck. I 
called around and everyone tells me they would charge like 50 dollars to look 
but no promises. And that parts would probably be sky high.

So I am debating what to do with the old one.
