Guys, let me clarify my remarks, lest there be a misunderstanding. WiFi hotspots, as they're called, which are set up by hotels, cafes, airports, etc., are legitimate free sources of internet services. They do carry some security risks & people who use these should be aware of them. Specifically: a) Never ever ever enter any security-related data over these, e.g., passwords, credit card info, etc.; b) Change the name of the default workgroup to which u connect from MSHome to something obtrusive, e.g., not your last name w/the numbers 1234 afterwords; c) Whether u connect to a wireless network or no, consider password-protecting & encrypting important documents which contain information prying eyes should not see. What is illegal is hopping on an open network that is not 1 of those specifically established for this purpose, e.g., your next door neighbor's. That, indeed, is theft of services. Again, u could argue that folks stupid enough to leave their wireless network unsecured are asking for it, & they are, but the truth of the matter is that they're paying for the internet service & you're not, which is what makes it theft of service. The other side of the coin, of course, is that the security risks to the person connecting to the open network are almost as great as for those who have 1 in the 1st place. I hope this clarifies. Lastly, I'll add that I do offer my professional services for any1 needing to secure their wireless network or a plethora (there's a word for u wordaphiles) of other computer-related topics. Blessings for your day. On 8/27/09, Valerie Maples <vlmaples@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Yikes! Neither did I! I thought open = free. I have done it many times > in our RV over cell phone dial-up.
