Cindy,

If people are going to post what they are scanning too this list, it seems that
for you to keep a list would just be wasted time and effort on your part. I
mean, the only people who would know about it are people on this list. I hate
to see you waste your valuable time and effort. I mean this kindly, so I hope
you do not take offense.

Thanks, Roger(and for your second note.

I will keep a list; it won't take any time and even though it will only
contain books volunteers are scanning it might prevent some duplicated work and
might interest members to know what they can look forward to seeing in the
collection. I won't post the names of the scanner, though; if somone wants to
know he/she can contact me (I'll put that note at the bottom.

Cindy, the reason that Bookshare stopped keeping that list is because so many
books are being added to the collection every day. It has been a long time
since less than hundreds have been added in one day and often it is more than
two thousand a day. The ones being worked on by volunteers is paltry in
comparison and one may as well just check the collection every day. You could
start keeping the list again, but I think the effort would far outweigh the
small benefit. The main advantage would be that proofreaders could ask for a
hold, but since the volunteers on this list would likely be the only ones to
look at it I think it would be less effort for people to just announce what
they are scanning on this list. For the record, I am currently working on The
Essential Hal Clement, Volume Three, but I can't hold it for anyone. It is one
of those books that Madeleine has distributed to us.

Is this something I should revive, do you think? Originally I kept the
list; I took the info from the the volunteer list and/or people wrote to me
what they were scanning. Do you think it would be useful to have such a list so
people would know what's being scanned and by whom so they could contact the
scanner and ask to proof the book (and not waste time scanning somethng that
someone else is scanning?

Hi there, Bookshare friends & volunteers!

I am a few chapters into scanning a new book I purchased after it was
recommended by a singer-songwriter I had just interviewed for my radio show.

        The book is:

A Six String History of America
        by Jay M. Pilzer
        published in 2014

It is a history of the guitar in America. Written by a history
professor who also happens to be a guitar aficionado.
And if you know any musicians who are blind, you know we kind of get
obsessed about the instruments we like to try and play!

A Six String History of America by Jay M. Pilzer (amazon link)

I have scanned and had numerous book submissions accepted into our
collection over the years.
But of late, things have gotten to where a few submissions have come in
just around when they are being entered in by the Staff from the Publishers.
And this was even after I had dutifully checked the "in process" list
on the website.

I don't care about that too much.
I enjoyed the scanning and the reading, which is what I mostly do is
scan what I wish to read and figuring it adds to my enjoyment, the pleasure of
sharing it with other eligible Bookshare members.

But I thought this time I would try and check earlier, prior to getting
all that close to being ready to submit.
And I was trying to find the Books Being Scanned List.
The page to which I was directed is dated November, 2013.
Maybe I somehow got lost in my own navigation. Stranger things have
happened to me!

        So, there you go.
My Scan of a new book in Process. And my report of what I found in the
Bookshare Books Being Scanned page.

        Thanks, all.
Oh, if someone emails me directly, and wishes to Proofread this book,
send me an email or reply to the Discussion.
