The Shape of Dread by Marcia Muller has already been scanned, but not submitted. ----- Original Message ----- From: Carrie Karnos To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, March 13, 2005 7:47 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: more book sale finds You're quite welcome! I'm not actually a member of the Bookshare staff, only a volunteer, but thanks for your kind words anyway. I didn't read my email before I went off to the monthly oldies-but-goodies book sale this morning. So I didn't get any gardening books, but there are still lots of gardening books left over every month. I'll get some container gardening books next month. My apologies about not getting them this month! I did however get a bunch of books that I hope some people will like, to wit: Romance: Random Winds by Belva Plain Crescent City by Belva Plain Mystery: Third Girl by Agatha Christie Murder with Mirrors by Agatha Christie The Golden Ball and Other Stories by Agatha Christie Towards Zero by Agatha Christie Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie Passenger to Frankfurt by Agatha Christie Maigret and the Wine Merchant by Georges Simenon Maigret and the Headless Corpse by Georges Simenon Ellery Queen's Poetic Justice by Ellery Queen Pennies on a Dead Woman's Eyes by Marcia Muller Wolf in the Shadows by Marcia Muller The Shape of Dread by Marcia Muller Health: The Olive Leaf: Unequalled Immune Support for Health and Longevity Relief from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) by Elaine Fantle Shimberg Living Well with Parkinson's by Glenna Wotton Atwood Extraordinary Times by Sharon Torres Richard Hittleman's Introduction to Yoga Yoga for Business Executives and Professional People by Archie J. Bahm The Pocket Guide to Beer: A Discriminating Guide to the World's Finest Brews Westerns: The Switch by Elmore Leonard Spies: Tom Clancy's Power Plays: Politika Biographies: An Autobiography by Agatha Christie Beverly: An Autobiography by Beverly Sills Leonard Bernstein: The Fabulous Success Story of a Lonely Boy Who Conquered the World of Music by David Ewen Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now by Maya Angelou Fiction: Come, My Beloved by Pearl S. Buck Z by Vassilis Vassilikos Stories by Katherine Mansfield The Hour Before the Dawn by W. Somerset Maugham Non-fiction: How to Strengthen Your Memory by Michael Fidlow Excellence: Can We Be Equal and Excellent Too? by John W. Gardner The Observing Self: Mysticism and Psychotherapy by Arthur J. Deikman, MD They should all be on the download list in a few weeks. I grabbed a book of Agatha Christie plays (The Mousetrap, Ten Little Indians, Appointment with Death, The Hollow, Witness for the Prosecution, Verdict, and Go Back for Murder) before I remembered that we can't put plays on the website. Rats! Sure wish we could. I'll talk to Gustavo about it next week. No, wait, he's going to be at CSUN. I'll do it the week after then. I know there has been a lot of talk about what everyone wants to see on the site and various suggestions for improvements. I'm no different in that I have things I'd like to see, too, and improvements can always be made, no matter how good it gets, but I'm grateful for what we have. I'm grateful for the site and all it has to offer, and I'm grateful for all volunteers and in-house staff and all the work you guys do. I hope to be contributing more over the summer, but at least for me, right now, things are way too busy around here! Take care. Unfortunately the books that will bring in grant money (so Bookshare can stay afloat) are not the same books that most members want to read (sci fi, mysteries, romance and some other category that I've forgotten - Westerns maybe?). So the staff does a juggling act, trying to keep everyone happy - investors, members, volunteers. It's a bit rough on the staff members, since they WANT to make everyone supremely happy but they know they can't. I try to put the books I find (based on what everyone tells me in the discussion group) into the submission queue as fast as I can, but my time is limited too. We really do try, we really really do... Thanks! Carrie siss52 <siss52@xxxxxxx> wrote: It seems to me that they definnitely need more staff to approve books.. One person can only do so much, and yet Marissa keeps dreaming up more projects and bringing in more books, even though she tells us they are working on a bunch of donated books. It seems the gardening books should get some priority as well as cookbooks. One word of caution: Marissa brought in 5 bags of books on Thursday, and I got 2 more bags of books this weekend, so it'll take a while for all of the books (probably 80-100) to move thru the queue. Don't hold your breath waiting for them! I hope we can streamline the process, and get them submitted sooner, but you know how it goes... Carrie "Shelley L.
