I think working on a list of tips to help scans for Kursweil, Openbook and
fine reader would be an awesome idea.

I for one have found in Kursweil optimizing 2 times makes for excellent
almost flawless scans.
I am pretty excited to have discovered this and find the extra time in the
beginning really helps my scans.

MMaybe a few of us could put something together.

Submitters need to take care of the little things if they want better
quality books. I as a validator have to constantly fix the 1 for I issue f r
example. This issue drives subscribers crazy. They come up to me at
conferences and say how disappointed they are at paying for subscriptions and
then getting what we know are brightness issue things like 1 for I rn for m
(cornputer cornmon and such) and the 1 for I. If submitters submit cleaneer
copies, validators can validate more quickly. Given that they get five times
what I do for submitting, can we start having some kind of organized method of
showing them how to do better submits?

One thing we should ALL keep in mind is that the majority of subscribers
to
bookshare.org are paying customers who neither scan nor validate. We
should
not loose sight of how they woulld feel about inferior copies of books.
They pay $75 the first year and $50 each year thereafter, while NLS
subscribers pay nothing. As Mike pointed out in a recent post, validation
is subjective so we are not all going to feel the same way about it. We
      should, however, remember PAYING CUSTOMERS.

That is my last post on this subject, no matter what anyone else says or
how
      long this discussion lasts.

      Regards to all,

      Sue S.
