Hi, E. and all.
I think I'd wait a couple of days before deciding to reject the book. It
looks like the user's time expired on the 12 of this month, and, IMO,
that's really not long enough to decide that this same user won't download
the book again.
Isn't Jim Nuttall on the list? perhaps we could ask him just how messy this
book is.
I agree that validators who have a history of keeping books for months and
months and then releasing them is a problem right up there with submitters
who aren't interested in improving their scans. I'm not sure how Bookshare
could deal with this without alienating some volunteers. It's going to take
more diplomacy than I possess, that's for sure. <grins>
I've gotten into the habit of reading the history before I download anything
to validate. If it was returned to step 1 a few days earlier, and if
there's a consistent history of the same user renewing a book several days
after the edit time expired, I'll find something else to work on.
Let's keep in mind that an unexpected illness, emergency, or computer crash
could prevent a conscientious validator from finishing a validation. If
someone doesn't have a way of communicating this to anyone, then
unfortunately, the book is fair game for downloading.
I have a particular book I've been working on for several months, but I
don't plan to release it without uploading it to the approval cue unless
something unforeseen happens.
Just my pre-coffee two cents on this issue.
