What version of K1000 and what scanner? Some scanners provide an incorrect
number of bytes per line when grayscale is used, which gives us a badly
distorted image. We've worked around that as time goes on, so newer
versions and patches tend to fix the more common scanner problems.

Finally got the cover to read, but had to put the brightness up to 65, and gray scale wouldn't work for me. I had to put the threshhold on dynamic. I don't know if the settings depend on individual scanners or not. Most seem to have the best luck with gray scale, but when I try using it, I either get garbage, or it tells me that the page is blank when it isn't.
