Hi, Carrie's idea sounds good to me because audible.com seems to have a plethora of lists. Here's somei think would be interesting: essential classics, essential Westerns, essential fantasy, essential horror, essential mystery/detective fiction, essential espionage fiction, classic SF, humorous fiction, etc. Of course once you figure out what is essential in each genre (thissupposes someone can) then you can have lists for books which are guilty pleasures, anything your heart desires. One can have a list of books with the most cringe-worthy titles (can you think of any?) I'm wondering if we could do a fun thing of coming up with collection names for Carrie. Maybe romance fanciers can make up collection names so it will sound necessary. Hi Jamie, Yep, that's the website I start at. I look at the top 10 books in Hardcover Fiction, Hardcover Nonfiction, Paperback Trade Fiction, Paperback Mass-Market Fiction, and Paperback Nonfiction. I ignore the Hardcover and Paperback Advice Books, the Hardcover and Paperback Business Books, and Graphic Books lists. I'll file a ticket with Engineering to create a kiddie bestseller list, and start creating a list of which books I need to get. The outsourcers get a couple hundred books each week, so adding in a few more won't be difficult. There are thousands of lists of books. It would be easy to have someone working on special collections full-time. Maybe I should suggest at the next Collection Development meeting, run the idea up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes... First though, we'd need the ability to create special collections ourselves rather than relying on Engineering. I'm just musing, don't think that this is imminent! It would be months off if it ever does come to pass. I just sometimes go to: http://www.nytimes.com/pages/books/bestseller/ and see what the bestsellers are from there. Where do you get your list from? I would like to see all of the other types of children's lists. Special collection lists are so much fun! My library has some lists of special collections lists that I like to check out (from this page) http://ibistro.tln.lib.mi.us/uhtbin/cgisirsi/arKx6qrL0D/FERNDALE/192290961/1 22/2008 -- Jamie in Michigan Currently Reading: Jupiter's Bones by Faye Kellerman Earn cash for answering trivia questions every 3 hours: http://instantcashsweepstakes.com/invitations/ref_link/49497 See everything I've read this year at: www.michiganrxtech.com/books.html __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4757 (20100109) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4757 (20100109) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4757 (20100109) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com
