Those volunteers who have received Kurzweil 9.0 should consider updating
their software to 9.02. The upgrade is free for 9.0 users. Just open
Kurzweil then online/search for updates. Select the 9.02 patch. Press on
OK to commence download. You will be alerted when download is complete.
Close K1K and the product update will start and complete automatically.
Once the process is complete restart K1K and you will be on 9.02.

Kellie,

If your computer happens to be old and slow--old hunk of a junk, you can
use
my 14-item list to scan first and recognize while you take a nap or
something. Let me know if you need a copy.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] just got Kurzweil 9

Hi all,
I just got Kurzweil 9 yesterday, and I've already finished scanning two
books with it. I was pleased to note that even Scansoft Fast is not at all
a
bad OCR engine. I scanned a grungy old paperback with it, and I was very
happy with the results--I read the whole thing and there were very very
few
errors. Beware though--it doesn't recognize double dashes. I discovered
that, so I went back and fixed all the ones in that book, but it's
something
to be aware of.
Besides the practical improvements, some fun things have been added. For
example, I set Kurzweil so that when I close it it declares, "Okay, I'm
gone." <grin> That was really satisfying yesterday when it was crashing
and
being stupid, and I yelled "Just get outta here!" as I hit alt-f4. <lol>

The latest Fine Engine is really good, but it's also really slow if your
computer happens to be an ancient hunk of junk like mine. However, I'll
soon
be getting a new computer, and then I'm sure it will be much faster.
Kellie
