Lissi, Unless you know something that I don't, why do you think Echoes won't be approved? As a matter of fact, I have three BSO books right now that haven't been either approved or rejected. If they still haven't been by the time I return from Thanksgiving, I plan to contact Bookshare. Books you take from step 1 will always have xip as their extension; when unzipped they will have the RTF or some other extension. Since I use Kurzweil 1000 to validate books, I won't confuse you by trying to explain further. Am I mistaken or were you getting Kurzweil? ----- Original Message ----- From: Jana Jackson To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, November 20, 2005 12:15 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: help me electronically save a good cat Hi, Lissi! Okay, I probably shouldn't be tackling this in my current state, as I could very easily make things worse. But I'll do my best. <Smile> First of all, it's pretty common for a book on the Step 1 page to be in a zip form when you download it. It's not a problem, you just have to know how to extract (or unzip) the file to a particular folder, some place that is easy for you to get to. I'm assuming that you've already done this, so you do have a copy of the file. When it was unzipped, it was already an RTF file, right? Clarify that for me, and it'll be easier for me to help you, I think. I've written and deleted this e-mail a couple of times, so I think I'd just better make sure I'm understanding where exactly you're getting stuck first. <Smile> I'll probably go to sleep soon, so we may have to wait until tomorrow to finish this anyway. E-mail me off-list at jana@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx if you want. If my voice is okay tomorrow, maybe we can talk on the phone. Hang in there, you're doing great! The scan should be pleasant to read, but I'm afraid I'll do something wrong and it will drift about, who knows where, instead of being added to the collection. I thought the file should be named with a dot rtf before I began the uploading process. I Tried to copy the dot zip file I worked with to an RTF file. Every RTF book I download appears changed to dot zip and I don't know how to stop that from happening. When I open the RTF file I made, Jaws says something like, "File conversion Julian_s.rtf dialogue list box Western European(windows Jaws is on Western European) I get western European with .dos and ..iso and .mac and us-askee and Viet namese.something by arrowing up in that field. If I upload that I'm afraid book share will just get pages and pages of stuff not even written with the alphabet. I thought RTF meant a nice, easy to read and work with text. How did I make this awful stuff appear? Also, as I tab through this box trying to decide what to do, something I land on makes it vanish. Hoping someone has the patience to tackle this or knows a way to get this book uploaded properly. There's one other step which is that you need a very simple set file to draw a window and read what's in that window at the press of page-up or page-down. With Window-Eyes, that's a couple minutes work. I've already done it and I'm very unfamiliar with set files. With JFW, it should be equally easy. There may be talking palm pilots which would work, but I'm not familiar with them. Alternatively, many books on PDB are also available as PDF. I have no idea whether these would be readable. ----- Original Message ----- From: E. How much are palm pilots? What else can I do with it and how would I do it with no vision at all? Thanks for info. E.
