Hi Bud! About a year ago I scanned an entire book and saved it. Word had a problemand I ended up losing the entire book. Now, I back up all my books, whether scanning or proofreading, to a flash drive. It's saved me more than once. I also copy the original RTF file I download from Bookshare before I even openit. That way I always have a backup copy in case I accidently replace or remove something I shouldn't.I'm so sorry this has happened to you, but I guess some things just work outthat way. Blessings. You're right, but I scan 50 pages at a time and then go back over them anddelete headers and fix page numbers etc. I never have felt I needed to savea backup copy, but now I can see the reason for it. I've never done thisbefore because I've never had a book that the title was the name of a placethat was repeated many times throughout the text. I've learned my lesson now. Thanks for the feedback. I am starting to scan it again and I will take precautions this time. The first thing I do after having scanned the book is to save it with the same title and WORKING in caps after it. Then each subsequent time I prepared to do a major process, I save it again, with ascending numbers after that. Other people append the date after the title. That way you don't lose anything more than your last revision. All of us feel your pain, I can't imagine that there are many people who haven't done this one time or another. Let us know if we can help anymore!
