Robert, Red Gold by Alan Furst was very recently republished. I just
downloaded with K1000 and the book opened without problem. You may have
corrupted your copy during download. Please delete your copy and download
another copy using K1000, then try to open it from K1000 once again.
Remember you will be asked your Bookshare password also during the open
operation.

If you have downloaded the original file with Internet Explorer you may
have inadvertently changed the file type on the file download dialogue.

Does it happen with all the books you download? I would try with a whole
bunch of books and if none of them work you have more information to
provide to people who might be able to help you with your problem. If it
is only with a few books you downloaded all at the same time it might just
be what you downloaded that is defective. I have found defective books
that wouldn't open and they gave that message about the format not being
determinable. As Guido suggested, give us some titles to check.
