We had a grape vine and ripped it out when we heard this.  Fortunately, our 
dogs didn't seem to pay much attention to it and our grapes weren't much good 
anyhow.

    Not the smartest idea around dogs, btw.  The literature has been growing 
concerning the toxicity of grapes for dogs.

      Actually growing grapes isn't that difficult.  My aunt and uncle own a 
      vineyard.

      And believe me you know when the grapes are ripe.  Course the one thing 
that 
      you wouldn't be able to do is test sugar content.  Alas, no talking 
gadget 
      for that.
