Which is precisely why the "hate speech" designation leads to a very slippery slope. As I've said before I can only think of 1 book, maybe 2 that I've read which had what I would call hate speech. Perhaps I never stray too far off the beaten path literarily speaking. But I thought I'd read a lot from all over the spectrum.

I am wondering if Anne Coulter's books were rated adult content because the validator felt it was a book filled with hate messages? That is the only thing that makes sense. If not, the bookshare tool is broken. Hey, it is possible! *L*

I understand kelpie's complaint here.

As there are other books that consistantly are marked adult, I am thinking
of the Gay and Lesbian book titles, for a while they were being marked
adult, even though the content wasn't, but the "topic" was offensive to
some.

Content Filtering

Books sometimes get mismarked Adult. It's up to the
validator, in the final analysis, to determine the
rating, I think, since he/she is the last person to
check (and hopefully read) the book. But if anyone
questions the rating, he/she can write to Carrie or
Claire and ask them to check it out and change the
rating, as Allison just did.

For some unknown reason, a while ago some children's
picture books were inexplicably rated Adult.
