I was going to say Fannie Hill, but suddenly realized that I had no specific knowlege of whether it was really 18th century or just a pastiche.

Hi, Kelby.

Great minds are thinking alike. Thanks for bringing this up and saving me a few minutes of E-mail editing. <grins>

Under the current system, someone who is not a member of Bookshare could do a search for a book or author and would think that no books by that author were on Bookshare if those books were marked adult. They wouldn't even see a list of books by a
particular author if all of that author's books were marked adult.

I think it's important to let people se what books Bookshare has available,
whether those books are marked adult content or not. I realize there is a
substantial portion of the Bookshare membership who are under eighteen or who may not want to read adult content materials. However, the issue here isn't accessing the books, it's being able to verify that a specific author or books by an author are live on Bookshare. It's comparable to doing a card catalog search in the library. People who aren't members of Bookshare can't log in, so they couldn't download adult rated books, even if they're over eighteen, but anyone would be given accurate information about what books are available regardless of their raiding.

Everyone searching Bookshare should know what's available and what isn't. they're only going to be seeing books and/or authors in the list of search results. Someone who isn't a member of bookshare wouldn't necessarily have to view search results as a list of hyperlinks, which is how they are listed for me, even if I'm not logged in to the site.

The only exception to this should be if the books are listed as public domain. In that case, anyone can download those. Are there public domain books rated adult? Anything is possible, so that would have to be dealt with somehow.

Grandma Cindy's example of children's books being marked adult is another reason why everyone needs to know what's available. Perhaps this would have been discovered and corrected sooner.

I look at it this way: Anyone can go into a public library and search the card catalog for a specific book or author. This doesn't mean they will be able to check out a
book. They may be too young, or they may not be a member of that library
system. Still, they had the chance to see what was available, and that is
the problem with making books rated adult invisible to people who can't log
into Bookshare.

Lisa

See, this is not my problem. I don't WANT to read books that are truly
adult in nature. My problem is that books like Slander, which are in no
way adult, are being marked adult. Everyone has consistently failed to
address this problem.

A: It is the universe exploding.

"It is not what we see that determines who we are. It is how we choose to
see it."

"Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his
splendor is above the earth and the heavens."

Psalm 148:13

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I
go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you
are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far
side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will
hold me fast.
