I always manually strip headers before declaring a book done, being
careful to leave page numbers, and doing my best to protect chapter
headings.
The page number protects the chapter title, if it's on top. If it's not
on top, then one has to add something else before the chapter title for
the stripper to gobble up, so it leaves the chapter title alone.
