Hi, Sue, and thanks. We're all volunteers...all of us who work outside of
Bookshare's main office, anyway, and a lot of the people who actually do
work in the office are volunteers, too. You're a volunteer. *smile*
Validators and submitters are volunteers. We all help to make Bookshare what
it is. Take care.

Hi, Julie,

I do not know any of thhe volunteers or staff personally, but "positive" is
my impression too. k After hearing that "fair" is a default it mmade sense
to me because it seems that all programs and systems have defaults. I know
Marissa is a volunteer, or at least it says she is the volunteer
coordinator. It would be great to know a little about all of them. Oh, and
I guess the one named Rui is a volunteer, and I get the imppression from
what is said in the discussion groups that some of them scan books as well,
which would be volunteer work. You are always very positive, I might add.
<smile>

Sue

It would be nice if the automatic tool that rates the books when we validate
them could also be used to automatically rate books when they're originally
submitted. Of course, if we validate them and make a lot of improvements, we
could still change the rating if it's poor even then, but it would be nice.
I'm looking forward to all the impending changes here at Bookshare. They all
sound so positive, and I'm looking forward to them all. Take care.

Hi Folks,

I know this default fair marking is an issue but it's not going to
change any time soon. For now, if you honestly feel that a book is of
good or excellent quality before it's sent off to be validated, feel
free to check and alternate rating.

I'll put your request on the nebulous wishes to do list <smile>

Marissa

I'd have to agree that the ratings are sometimes problematic. I wish
when
the book was submitted it would give the percentage errors like when a
validator is uploading it. For those lucky Kurzwell users they have a
rank
spelling count, but us poor OpenBook users don't (I definately wanted
K1000
but the state of Illinois decided I needed OpenBook).
