Thanks, Evan, and sorry for posting the wrong info, Jamie.  As far as I am 
concerned, it doesn't bother me to see one hyphen rather than two.  I have 
been leaving them alone as well.

No, the em dash doesn't translate properly into Braille, at least not the 
way Bookshare does it. The convention for Braille is to use two hyphens for 
the em dash, but for some reason Bookshare's Braille translator just puts in 
one hyphen.
