I too prefer to scan. Every now and then though, I'll start doing validations, either when I feel a bit guilty, or when titles catch my interest. The guilt usually last until I've seen a few books where it appears the submitter hasn't done even the bare minimum of cleaning up, and it takes me much longer to clean it than it did for them to scan it.

But I am a mostly scanner. I love to read, and well, sometimes get ahead of
myself with scanning and submissions. I have several books that will appear
in the collection eventually. I keep telling myself that once I finish
these few ahem, many, that I will then do some validating, but, then another
few great books come along or someone asks for an author I have... and
well...

So I will be a validator someday and I am grateful that you all are
validators and willing to read our humble submissions.

stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs.

I think Cindy's absolutely right in her words below.

And actually, I like getting the fifty cents for validating. I do think
that, perhaps, the amount should depend on the quality of the original scan.
Maybe something like 50 for excellent and a dollar for fair? I know the BS
team has roughly a billion and five suggestions from people which takes much
time to implement, but even so, that's one from my thoughts to add to the
list. :-)

I think the validation thing also depends on the kind of person you are.
I'm only an average scanner, something I feel I can bee good at, where my scanning is primarily only done
when it has to be. I still enjoy volunteering and like the validating as an
option. Some people just scan, and some people just validate, some do both.
It's just where one's skills and preferences lie. We all do it because we
want to. I figure if one considers it something not quite worth the effort,
then it's not necessary that that individual do it. Also, the beauty of it
is that you only have to validate when you want to or have the time. There
is no required amount, and I find that really nice.

Just my thoughts on it.

Allison
