Jake,

That makes perfect sense. Very well explained.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,
Yes I believe OpenBook does lose blank pages when converting to RTF, as it doesn't seem to matter whether they are opened in Word or OB, the blank pages are gone. Additionally the BookShare system always lists a few less pages than OpenBook reports.
Generally the only blank pages I encounter are at the front of the book before the actual body text begins. This happens because as I run across blank pages throughout the story I insert page numbers and if applicable a fake header. This fake header follows the convension of the book, it is not a bunch of stars or dashes like some people do.
If you need those few pages at the beginning or you don't follow my technique it is acceptable to put
[BLANK PAGE]
on those pages and then they won't be lost and it is communicated to the reader what they've come across.

HTH,
Jake

Hello folks,

Continuing a conversation from a week or more past ...

When I use Openbook to convert .ark files to rtf, I notice that the number of pages changes. Is it possible that I'm losing blank pages? The number lost is small, so I'm leaning in that direction. If this is the case, can an Openbook expert advise me as to how best to avoid this happening?

Another possibility is that I'm muddling the process, because I open the .rtf file in Word after doing the conversion to rtf in Openbook. Is Word gobbling blank pages? And again, if so, I don't know what other program I might use to open the .rtf file, and still be able to perform a spell check, make the appropriate quote changes, etc. Any ideas?

Scott
