Hi Pratik,

The answer is yes, but a quiet yes. In no way are we urging you to go
out and find lots of foreign materials or soliciting them from our
volunteers and users <smile>.

Best,
Marissa

Marissa,

Does this mean that we can scan international books so long as they're
scanned within the U.S.? If so, this is a policy departure for
Bookshare.
It has always been my understanding that international books may only be
scanned if the publisher has a counterpart in the U.S.--even if that
counterpart is called something else.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you! I just want to ensure that
Bookshare
stays within whatever legal boundary it sets itself to follow.

Hi E.

Sorry I've been out of the loop for a few days--I learned how to ski on
Christmas day out in South Lake Tahoe--absolutely beautiful and cold!

As for your question about scanning this book that originates from
India, you can feel free to do so, as long as you're scanning it in the
U.S.. I'm assuming that you won't be working on this in a hut in Madras
or anything of that sort, so go ahead, have fun with those eight
volumes.

Best,
Marissa Mika

I mostly edit other people's scans. I am attempting to scan The
Complete
Works of Swami Vivekananda which is in several volumes. The copy I have

may have been printed in India. It is on extremely thin paper though
the
scan is coming out surprisingly well.

My concern is that this particular copy does not seem to have a American

copyright as such though some mention is made of Shamlalah Press (I have

the spelling wrong here) in the preface. I believe this book has an
American copyright somewhere.

Please advise on how I can find out what we need to allow my scan to get
on
bookshare.

E.
