I agree. The only reason to submit in kes is if you keep images.

HI E and everyone,

In my experience with validating, there are very few kes files submitted
that have images. So without keeping the images there is no real reason to
keep a file in kes format since it is the same information you would get in
an rtf. I have expressed my preference for KES files to have the images but
this seems to be discouraged over all.

There was a book a while back I validated with images and I was able to make
corrections I would have had to guess at without the images. There is an
advantage to having them but then everyone doesn't have Kurzweil to work
with the files. Maybe a bit of a catch 22.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] comments about kes submits

If somebody scans a book using a version of kurzweil older than version
eleven and uploads it into bookshare in kes format, then somebody with
version eleven or any version newer than the submitters version of kurzweil
can re-recognize images if they are kept and come up with a better
copy. This is particularly important when dealing with people who have
little knowledge of scanning or who do not use the scanning features
available first in version 8 particularly the optimize feature. Basically
those new to scanning may actually produce better copies if they are
encouraged to keep images and upload kes format.

A good idea may be to encourage validators able to do so to first clear
step 1 of kes formatted submits.
