Kim;

There is a danger in doing that as many authors make lists that way,, so i
check
example by example. I learned the hard way after separating a series of
comments that were represented that way, but were actually one paragraph. It
happens more often than you can imagine.
Valerie

Hi, Marilyn, here is the procedure to insure that your book has properly
split dialog.
A. If you are using Microsoft Word 2002-03, you must do what is known as
find-and-replace. To start this, open your working file and make sure
you select all the document by hitting Ctrl+A.
B. Now go to the top of your file and hit ctrl+H. This will put you in a
dialog box and your screen reader should say something like "find what".
You will be using your tab key so be prepared. After the find box, there
will be a replace box which you will reach by tabbing once.
C. In the find box, type " " (that is open quote, followed by an empty
space by hitting the spacebar then a closed quote).
D. In the replace bbox type "^p", (that is open quote, caret made by
hitting the shift key+the #6 on the numbers row above the alphabet keys,
followed by the letter P and the closed quotation mark [shift
key+apostrophe].)
E. Hit alt key+A to indicate you wish to replace all. You will then hear
if any replacements were made. If your dialog is properly split you
should hear that there were 0 replacements made which means you have
properly split dialog. If not you will hear how many replacements were
made and you can hit okay by pressing the spacebar or the enter key.
F. Save any changes by hitting ctrl+S. Now you can close your document
knowing you have properly split dialog. Regards, Kim Friedman.

Hi, KIm.

I do almost exactly what you do: Take care of all the replacements
before I start proofreading the book. I do all the replacements you do,
except for the one you called "split dialog." What is that and what do
you do about it? I love learning new stuff, and I thank you for
whatever help you can be.
